As many as 16 people were apprehended by the police at Kanubari in Arunachal Pradesh near the border with Assam yesterday. All the apprehended persons were labourers who did not possess any Inner Line Permit documents to enter the state.

The police team led by Kanubari police station OC S.K. Rai made the arrests and the apprehended persons were produced before sub divisional magistrate T. Mize, who issued an order to extern them out of Arunachal Pradesh’s territory. Accordingly, all of the 16 persons were sent back to Assam.

Arunachal Pradesh authorities have beefed checking along the border with Assam to stop illegal immigrants from crossing over in the wake of the recently published NRC second draft in Assam.

The total number of persons apprehended for travelling to Arunachal Pradesh without proper ILP documents has gone up to 24 in a span of three days.
