In a significant development, the Trishakti Corps of the Indian Army, in collaboration with the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), has completed the construction of a 100-foot Bailey Bridge over Zeema Chu.
The completion of this vital bridge reconnects the previously cut-off Northern side of Lachen, which was cut off due to a glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) on the night of October 3, 2023.
Working tirelessly around the clock, the BRO initiated the project by constructing the abutments, with the subsequent bridge construction carried out by the skilled Trishakti troops. The entire operation, from abutment to bridge completion, took three days.
The bridging operation involved the deployment of Engineer Troops from the Trishakti Corps, supported by the expertise and heavy-moving plants of the Border Roads Organisation. Despite facing the challenges posed by the glacial lake outburst flood, the collaborative efforts of the Indian Army and BRO prevailed.
The newly constructed Bailey Bridge now serves as a communication link, facilitating the seamless movement of vehicles and the provision of relief material to the town of Lachen.
