The highly anticipated meeting between TIPRA Motha and Centre’s interlocutor AK Mishra concluded this afternoon in Agartala, with the TIPRA Motha leadership reiterating they demand for creation of Greater Tipraland.

TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma led the party delegation who met Mishra at AD Nagar, Police Lines this morning.

During the closed door meeting that lasted for more than 2 hours, AK Mishra gave a patient hearing to the points raised by the TIPRA Motha leadership, Pradyot said speaking to reporters post the meeting.
The Tripura royal scion maintained that the demands of the TIPRA Motha has not been diluted and that nothing has been demanded which is intended for personal gains.

He said, “We have not diluted our demands, we have put the same issue forward, which is the demand for a Greater Tipraland. The GoI (Government of India) has to come back and specify as to what solution it can formulate from their viewpoint for the better future of the Tiprasas. We have presented before him (AK Mishra) our issues, he gave a patient hearing, now the ball is in the Centre’s court.”

While, Pradyot did not particularly mention if a solution is on the cards, he said that the demand for Greater Tipraland is very much within the Constitution.

He stated, “According to us it is separate administration and a demand (creation) for Greater Tipraland is the final solution. And we have put forward this point to him very clearly and we have given our reasons. If the GoI has a better idea, then they should come back to us in writing and we will consider it. We are not inconsiderable people. But the fact is that, much like any community which has been deprived for such a long time, it is our point of view to put up our demand which is within the Constitution. And the demand for Greater Tipraland is very much within the Constitution of India.”

TIPRA Motha leader and Leader of Opposition in the Tripura Assembly, Animesh Debbarma also spoke to Northeast Live and shared more details on the meeting. Debbarma said that while pursuing for the demand for Greater Tipraland, the TIRPA Motha leadership also pointed out the factors to substantiate their demand.

In the process, the TIPRA Motha leadership apprised AK Mishra about infiltration, drugs and human trafficking, for which it is seeking constitutional safeguards for the indigenous Tiprasa people.

Debbarma said over the phone, “The meeting was good, it was attended by all the top leaders of the TIPRA Motha party, our MLAs, TTAADC Chairman and CEM were also there. I can tell you that we have given our points, our demands. We have reminded the GoI once again where the bottleneck is, what is our problem and that we want permanent solution. Anything volatile happening in Bangladesh, it directly affects us so it is not only a state matter, but a matter of the whole nation.
We told that continuously the infiltrators are infiltrating through Tripura, human trafficking is happening, drug peddlers are getting safe passage through Tripura. So many things we have told today and these definitely concerns the entire nation. The MHA quickly understood the gravity of the problem and he promised us that the right report will be tabled before the Home Minister and we look forward that sooner the solution comes up, it will be better for the state, for its people and also for the entire nation.”
