The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) on Monday temporarily suspended the economic blockade along the National Highway 2 and National Highway 37 in Kangpokpi district.

CoTU decided to suspend the blockade because they realised the hardship and trouble the people in certain parts of Manipur were facing because of the blockade.

The supply of products to the capital of Manipur and other regions of the state was hampered by the blockade in portions connecting Assam’s Silchar and Dimapur in Nagaland to Imphal.

In a statement CoTU said, “The committee announced an economic blockade for the selective execution of law and order in Kuki-Zo areas. However, after considerable deliberation on the issue, the committee taking into understanding the hardship faced by fellow tribals in the area, has decided to temporarily suspend the economic blockade.”

“In accordance with the necessity that may arise out of the current dynamics, it will review the current suspension and enforce if required. The Committee also appreciate the support given by the public during the entire course of the blockade “, CoTU further added.
