Do not use Myanmar, Manipur crises to smuggle drugs through Mizoram, warns CYMA, MJA

In a strong message, the CYMA has made it clear that it will not allow drugs smuggling at any cost especially in context to the situation in Myanmar and Manipur
The Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA) has warned that no one would be allowed to take advantage of the situation arising out of the Myanmar and Manipur crisis for smuggling drugs through Mizoram.
This was stated by CYMA president Lalhmachhuana who was speaking at an event organised jointly by the pressure group and the Mizoram Journalists’ Association (MJA) pledging to fight the menace of drugs.
The CYMA president while appealing to join the war against drugs said, “Though the Mizo society and the Young Mizo Association support our brethren seeking safety and asylum in Mizoram, we will be very firm with those using the crises at Myanmar and Manipur as an excuse to smuggle drugs through Mizoram.”
Mizoram Journalists Association president C Lalrambuatsaiha also stated that substance abuses are prevalent among the youths in the State and that the society as a whole must work together to stop thi evil for further penetrating into the society.
Lalrambuatsaiha highlighted that both the MJA and the YMA are two organisations working towards the same goal.
As per data shared by IGP (Headquarters) Lalbiakthanga Khiangte, the Mizoram Police have seized narcotics worth Rs 120.50 crore during the last 10 months.
It was informed that over 60 kg of heroin have been seized since January 1 till October 31. 205 cases under the NDPS Act have been registered and 293 drug traffickers have been arrested so far.
On December 2022, the Zoramthanga government had decided to constitute a Task Force by incorporating officials of the Mizoram Police as well as other enforcement agencies and members of different civil society organisations including the CYMA, intending to intesify the crackdown on drugs menace.
