The LGBTQIA+ community of Tripura on Sunday held ‘Queer Pride Walk’ in Agartala to send out loud and clear messages about their right to live in equality and dignity, free from stigma, discrimination based on gender, and taboo for being different.
The ‘Queer Pride Walk’ was organized by Swabhiman, the LGBTQIA+ collective in Tripura, for the second time.
The walk started from the Umakanta Academy grounds with hundreds of members of the LGBTQIA+ community carrying vibrant rainbow flags. It was a lively celebration of different identities that encouraged people to embrace who they really are and break stereotypes.
The walk ended at the Vivekananda stadium, covering approximately five kilometers.
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBTQ) community members and supporters were among the participants. They made a bold statement by walking with rainbow flags, a symbol that is widely associated with LGBTQ social movements.
The organizers emphasized that the primary goal of the Queer Pride Walk is to honour and celebrate individuals identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender.
They aim to foster awareness within society, encouraging a shift away from stigma and prejudice associated with the LGBTQIA+ community.
Prominent personalities from different states across India have also joined the event. Their involvement highlighted the growing solidarity and support for LGBTQIA+ rights on a national scale.
