The Committee will submit another appeal to reschedule the date for the counting of votes to the 9th Mizoram Legislative Assembly election slated for December 3

The NGO Co-ordination Committee- a conglomerate of the various NGOs in Mizoram, has decided to meet the Election Commission of India (ECI) seeking for a change in the date for counting of votes to the Mizoram assembly election.

The reason for the change of date, is that December 3, falls on a Sunday, which is a sacred day for Christians.

The Committee will submit another appeal to reschedule the date for the counting of votes to the 9th Mizoram Legislative Assembly election slated for December 3; which falls on a Sunday.

The pressure groups have warned that if their demand for change in date is not addressed, there would be massive protests across the state.

Earlier, on November 9 representatives of various political parties and Mizoram Church Leaders Committee members met the state chief electoral officer Madhup Vyas on Thursday and appealed to the Election Commission to reschedule the date of counting of votes cast in the November 7 state Assembly election.

A written appeal was also submitted to the CEO requesting for a change in the date of counting from December 3, a Sunday, to either December 4 or 5.

On October 11, the Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitute Committee (MKHC), a conglomerate of major church denomination leaders, has sent a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner of India, appealing for a change in the date for counting of votes.
