Arunachal Pradesh: No trace of abducted village chief and his brother, NSCN-Ang Mai hand suspected

Even after four days of relentless search operations, there is no trace of Katwang Wangham the chief of Kamhua Noksa village and his brother, who were abducted by militants on October 29 in Longding district.
However, in a big development, reliable sources informed that security forces have been able to identify the group responsible for the abduction.
As per investigation carried out by security forces, NSCN-Ang Mai, which is a split away group of the NSCN K-YA, has been identified as the group behind the abduction of the duo. Moreover, security forces have also identified the rebel leaders are behind the abduction. According to the sources, Self Styled Maj. Gen. Somchai Konyak had planned the abduction, and it was carried out by a five member group led by listed cadre Self Styled Sergeant Major Wanglem Wangsu.
Katwang Wangham, who is the Village Chief of Kamhua Noksa village, was abducted along with his brother Wangtai Wangsu from their residence. The matter has triggered concern from the people in the district prompting Lok Sabha MP Tapir Gao, to appeal for the safe and secure release of the abducted duo.
It may be mentioned that the Centre had extended AFSPA in 3 districts of Arunachal Pradesh this September. The AFSPA was extended for 6 months in Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts.
Areas falling within the jurisdiction of Namsai, Mahadevpur and Chowkham police stations in Namsai district along the Assam border were declared as ‘disturbed area’ under Section 3 of the AFSPA, 1958 for a period of six months from October 1, “unless withdrawn earlier.”
