Earlier, the construction of two Bailey Bridges over the Teesta River at Sanklang was successfully completed
In the aftermath of the catastrophic floods, the Teesta Stage 6 dam barrage deck was re-opened reconnecting East Sikkim with South Sikkim after a gap of almost a month. Following the destruction of the L.D. Kazi Bridge during the Glacial Lake Outburst Flood on October 4, the two districts of Gangtok and Namchi was cut off for 25 days.
Earlier, the construction of two Bailey Bridges over the Teesta River at Sanklang was completed, re-establishing the connectivity between Mangan and Dzongu. The Border Roads Organization (BRO) is now mobilizing manpower and heavy machinery for the construction of a Bailey Suspension Bridge at Sanklang, ensuring year-round connectivity to the Dzongu region.
According to the Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA), around 25,065 people have been affected by the disaster, with 6,875 individuals relocated to relief camps. Furthermore, the flash floods damaged 1,203 houses and washed away or damaged 15 major bridges, 18 minor bridges, and portions of National Highway 10.
