Mizoram Polls: BJP to announce candidates in 3 days, ‘no untouchability with any party other than Cong’

"MNF is in the treasury bench in the Lok Sabha, they are part and parcel of India," BJP National Spokesperson and Mizoram in charge Mmhonlumo Kikon said
With less than a month left for the Mizoram assembly elections, the BJP has made its intentions clear when it comes to joining hands with other political parties post-poll. BJP National Spokesperson and Mizoram in charge Mmhonlumo Kikon today said that his party is open to aligning with any political force except the Congress.
Kikon maintained, “It is very clear, except for the Congress we feel that every regional party and their aspirations are in line with NDA and NEDA’s aspirations. So I dont think we have any such notions of untouchability with any party.”
The BJP leader also responded to former MNF leader and Mizoram Assembly Speaker Lalrinliana Sailo’s accusations stating that the MNF is against the BJP in Mizoram but extremely close to the NDA at the Centre.
Without minicing words, Mmhonlumo Kikon said, “In NEDA and even in NDA, BJP has always maintained the spirit of partnership. MNF is in the treasury bench in the Lok Sabha, they are part and parcel of India. What they do in Mizoram Assembly is upto them, but at least for BJP we respect our alliance partners and we have at least the trust of our alliance partners that we will never break the integrity of our alliance. Therefore if you see the lone Lok Sabha member from Mizoram is part of the Treasury Bench in the Lok Sabha.”
Citing the example of Meghalaya’s political dynamics, Kikon said, “If you look at Meghalaya BJP and NPP had post poll alliance, but in the run up to the elections, BJP contested all the 60 seats in Meghalaya. So this formula is not a new formula.”
It may be mentioned that the NPP is a key constituent of the Northeast Democratic Alliance (NEDA) as well as the National Democratic Alliance, but had decided to go to the 2023 assembly elections solo.
The BJP which is already engaged in hectic politicking in the run up to the assembly elections in Mizoram today announced the newly formed Mizoram BJP Election Manifesto Committee.
K Beichhua who recently joined the BJP by jumping ship from MNF has been appointed as the Convenor of the Committee. The Committee also includes Lalrinliana Sailo as the State Executive Member and other 5 members.
Kikon said that the party would announce its candidates list for the Mizoram polls in next three days.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday appointed Union Minister Kiren Rijiju as election in charge for the state Assembly polls.
Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland and party national general secretary Anil Antony were named as election co-in charges for the polls.
