BJP appoints Union Minister Kiren Rijiju as Mizoram polls in-charge

With less than a month left for the Mizoram Assembly polls scheduled to take place on November 7, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday appointed Union Minister Kiren Rijiju as election in charge for the state Assembly polls.
Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland and party national general secretary Anil Antony were named as election co-in charges for the polls.
“BJP National President Jagat Prakash Nadda has appointed Kiren Rijiju, Minister of Earth Sciences, Government of India as Election Incharge for the forthcoming Assembly Election of Mizoram State.
Yanthungo Patton, Deputy Chief Minister, Government of Nagaland and Anil Antony, National Secretary have been appointed as Election Co-Incharge for the same,” the BJP’s official release said.
This appointment comes into immediate effect, it added.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) last week announced the dates for the 40 seat Mizoram Assembly elections 2023, with the counting of votes scheduled on December 3.
A total of 8.52 lakh voters are expected to exercise their franchise in the polls. There are 4.13 lakh male voters, 4.39 lakh female voters and 50,611 first time voters, ECI data said.

Last date of filing nominations – Oct 20
Scrutiny of nominations – Oct 21
Withdrawal of candidature – Oct 23
Date of Poll – November 7
Date of counting – December 3
Election process to be completed on – December 5
There are 22 non- non motorable polling stations where Election Commission officials will go on foot and 19 riverine polling stations in Mizoram where the officials will go by boat, Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar said.
Mizoram would have 1,276 polling station – 525 in urban areas and 751 in rural areas. 95 polling stations would be managed by women. There would be 40 model polling stations and 11 would be managed by persons with disability (PWD).
