4 of a family including 2 infants killed in landslide in Meghalaya’s West Jaintia Hills

Four members of a family, including two infants, were killed when their house collapsed following a landslide in Meghalaya’s West Jaintia Hills district this morning.

The mishap occurred at Pynthor Langtein village under Thadlaskein C&RD Block, West Jaintia Hills.

As per inputs, their house was partially buried by mud and debris, causing damage to the structure following the landslide triggered by incessant rain in the area for past few days.

All four people were trapped under the debris. Later, rescue teams rushed to the spot and pulled them out of the rubble. They all died on the spot.

The deceased persons have been identified as– Biangki Phawa (29), his wife Pynjanai Ryngkhlem (25) and two infants.

The State Government has directed the Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills to provide any additional emergency help and release an ex-gratia of Rs. 4 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased.
