Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma informed that he is in touch with the Ministry of External Affairs

As many as 27 persons from Meghalaya are stuck in Palestine town Bethlehem amid the prevailing war-like situation between Israel and Palestine. The citizens from Meghalaya were on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said in a post on X.

The Meghalaya Chief Minister has further informed that he is in constant touch with the Ministry of External Affairs and following up the matter accordingly to ensure safe return of all the 27 people.

In his post on X, Chief Minister Sangma said, “27 citizens of Meghalaya who traveled for the Holy Pilgrimage to Jerusalem are stuck in Bethlehem due to the tension between Israel and Palestine. I am in touch with the Ministry of External Affairs to ensure their safe passage back home.”

According to Israeli Army Radio, 100 Israelis killed, 1000 wounded in the conflict that broke out between Israel and Palestine after a surprise attack by Hamas, the Palestinian militant group fired more than 5,000 rockets from the Gaza Strip toward Israel early Saturday morning. The Israeli government has said that at least 40 Israelis have been killed in the attack, but local media is reporting that the number has now risen to at least 100.

Hundreds of Hamas militants have infiltrated Israel in SUVs, motorcycles and paragliders and opened fire at civilians. Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared “war” and said his country would extract an “unprecedented price” from its enemy. “We are at war, not in an operation or in rounds, but at war.

This morning, Hamas launched a murderous surprise attack against the State of Israel and its citizens. We have been in this since the early morning hours,” Netanyahu told his countrymen in a televised address.
Hamas is calling its early daybreak barrage “Operation al-Aqsa Flood.” Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas chaired a high-level meeting with some top defence officials on Saturday and said that the Palestinian people have the right to defend themselves against the “terror of settlers and occupation troops”, the official news agency WAFA quoted him as saying.

Six hours after clashes between Hamas fighters and Israeli forces along the Gaza-Israel barrier began, the Israeli air force response was marked by an “unprecedented scale and intensity”, according to locals in Gaza as reported by Al Jazeera.

Hamas said its large-scale operation against Israel was in response to the desecration and aggression against Al-Aqsa Mosque, the Al Jazeera report said.
