Rising India shuttler Lakshya Sen wins a historic nation’s first men’s singles gold at the Asia Junior Badminton Championships in Jakarta on Sunday defeating Kanlavut Vitidasarn of Thailand in the final.
In his journey to the title clash, Sen had stunned second seed Li Shifend in the quarter finals and fourth seed Ikhsan Rumbay in the semis. The Indian was seeded sixth in the tournament.
It is only the second time that an Indian has achieved this feat since Gautam Thakkar’s gold way back in the 1965 edition of the tournament. Sen had previously won a bronze medal at the event in 2016.
