Assam: 2 ULFA-I cadres ‘executed’ for anti-outfit activities, bereaved families infuriated over outfit’s action

Two members of the banned outfit-United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) have reportedly been ‘executed’ by the outfit after the duo were served capital punishment at its Myanmar camp.

The two allegedly ‘executed’ ULFA-I members have been identified as Lachit Hazarika alias Salim Asom and Nayanmoni Chetia alias Barnali.

As per inputs, the outfit had served the duo with capital punishment for alleged anti-outfit activities.

The duo were reportedly executed at the outfit’s Hachi camp in Sagain area of Myanmar on September 20.

Lachit Hazarika who hails from Assam’s Tinsukia was with ULFA-I since the 1990s and is considered to be a close aide of the outfit’s commander-in-chief Paresh Baruah. While Nayanmoni Chetia was an emerging boxer from Tinsukia, when she reportedly joined the ULFA-I in 2021.

A pall of gloom has descended upon the family members of Lachit Hazarika and Nayanmoni Chetia on learning about their deaths.

Infuriated by ULFA-I’s action, the families of the deceased have questioned Paresh Baruah about what offense led to the imposition of death sentences to the duo.

The families have also asked the terror outfit to send Lachit Hazarika and Nayanmoni Chetia’s bodies back home.

Meanwhile Assam DGP GP Singh has expressed concern after news of the reported ‘execution’ and requested the youth of the state not to waste their precious lives for any person or organization, who does not value their lives at all.

“The heartbreaking news of the death has worried everyone. It is my request to the youth of Assam not to waste your life for the person and organization for whom your life is not important,” GM Singh wrote on X in Assamese language.
