Assam CM’s 3 conditions to vote for him: Not more than 3 kids, daughters must go to school, no child marriage

"After 10 years I will seek vote in Char areas, but not now," the Assam Chief Minister said.

Is the BJP in Assam gaining popularity in the Char areas of the state, predominantly inhabited by the Bengali origin Muslim community (colloquially referred to as ‘Miya’ Muslims)? There are reports surfacing which indicate that the Saffron party is making inroads into the Char areas, presumably which have been used as ‘vote banks’ which has always been a hot topic of debate in the political arena.

However, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and one of the BJP’s top strategist, has clearly mentioned that he does not require the votes from those in the Char areas. Sarma said so when he was asked about BJP gaining popularity in those areas.

In his response, the Chief Minister highlighted that welfare is BJP’s top agenda and said, “See BJP will always work on public welfare schemes, they will support us but they should not vote for us. There is no harm in giving support. They can give slogans of Zindabad for PM Modi, for BJP, for me, but when election will come I myself will request them not to vote for us.”

Himanta Biswa Sarma further said, “When they will do family planning, stop child marriage, when fundamentalism will cease to exist only then come and vote for us. For such things to happen it will take 10 years. After 10 years I will seek vote but not now.”

The Chief Minister said that he himself go to seek vote in the Char areas only if 3 conditions that he pointed will become a reality. He stated, “Anyone who votes for me should not have more than 2, 3 kids. The scene is improving slowly, whoever votes for me must send their daughters to school. Whoever votes for me cannot let child marriage happen. When these 3 conditions are fulfilled, I myself will go to the char areas seeking vote. It will take me at least 10 years to seek vote (in char areas). As I have told child marriage has to stop, parents must not give birth to more than 2-3 kids, they have to quit fundamentalism (kattarta)and shift to Sufism. Of course that wil take time.”

But the Assam Chief Minister clearly maintained that he never believes in the hate narrative and has done a lot for the upliftment of education and health sectors in those areas.
