The MKHC leaders, expressed their opposition to the proposed observance of the nation-wide cleanliness drive on October 1, which falls on Sunday
Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga on Thursday assured the representatives of the Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitute Committee (MKHC), a conglomerate of leaders of major church denominations in the state, that the nation-wide cleanliness drive to be observed on Sunday will be deferred to Monday.
The MKHC leaders, who met Zoramthanga this morning, expressed their opposition to the proposed observance of the nation-wide cleanliness drive on October 1, which falls on Sunday, the sacred day of the majority of Christians around the globe.
“Sunday is the day we worship God in almost all the local churches by a huge majority of Christian denominations, and the central government’s proposal to organize functions on that very day cannot be accepted, “the MKHC leaders said.
They appealed to the Chief Minister to defer the observance of the nation-wide cleanliness drive functions on October 2.
The church leaders said that they will happily comply with the request of the state Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation (UD and PA) department by reading out the message of the cleanliness drive in all the local churches on Sunday prayer and worship services.
