Assam, Meghalaya CMs inaugurate Karbi House in Shillong

The foundation stone for a 100-bedded students hostel was also laid in Shillong
Assam Chief Minister Himanata Biswa Sarma along with his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma inaugurated the Karbi Hemtun (Karbi House) and also laid the foundation stone for a 100-bed students hostel on Wednesday in Shillong.
Congratulating the people of Karbi Anglong and the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Chief Minister Sangma lauded the inauguration of the Karbi Hemtun and the commencement of work for the 100-bedded students hostel.
Meghalaya CM said that the relationship between the different tribes and communities of the North East is strengthened as we take pride in the unique diversity of our region while focusing on the commonality of our culture and traditions.
Sangma also highlighted the border issues for the past 50 years and said that both the state Governments are committed to resolving this long pending border issue.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma also expressed his gratitude to his counterpart Sangma for his support in facilitating the construction of the Karbi Hemtun in Shillong.
CM Sarma said, “I wish to express my gratitude to CM Conrad Sangma. This entire journey would not have been possible without the support from the Meghalaya Government. We have completed the construction of Karbi Hemtun here in Shillong, and the next project of 100 bedded students Hostel-cum-Commercial building will also be set up soon.”
CM further added that it is imperative for both states to be there for each other and solve issues of the both the states in an amicable manner. Sarma said, that Assam and Meghalaya have been neighbours, and will continue to remain so.
Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar along with the CEMs of two Autonomous District Councils of Meghalaya – Garo Hills and Khasi Hills and CEM of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Tuliram Ronghang and senior officials from both the states were present at the event.
