Ceasefire agreement between NSCN-K Niki Sumi group and Centre extended for another year

Ceasefire ground rules will also be subject to mutual review and amendment with the involvement of both the parties.

The ceasefire agreement between Niki Sumi faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-K Niki) and the Government of India has been extended for a period of one more year till the September 7, 2024.

The extension of the ceasefire agreement was signed in New Delhi today by both the parties. While the NSCN-K Niki Sumi team was led by Abel Zingrü Thuer, Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Piyush Goyal, represented the Government of India.

In the agreement, both parties mutually agreed to extend the ceasefire agreement to bring about lasting peace in Nagaland.

The ceasefire will be subject to adherence to the rules mutually agreed to and signed by both the groups.

Moreover, ceasefire ground rules will also be subject to mutual review and amendment with the involvement of both the parties.

The ceasefire agreement with the NSCN (K) Niki has been in operation since September 2021.

The Government of India had signed a framework agreement with the major Naga group NSCN-IM on August 3, 2015 in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to find a permanent solution.

The groups which have entered into ceasefire agreements are: NSCN-NK, NSCN-R, NSCN K-Khango and NSCN (K) Niki.
