Chetia informed that the talks with Centre is making steady progress and the next round of talks are likely to be decisive.

ULFA pro-talk leader Anup Chetia on Thursday called upon the ULFA-Independent (ULFA-I) to join the peace talks while stating that the pro-talks faction would have been in a much better position to negotiate with the Government of India if the ULFA-I was by its side.

Chetia said that the only way to resolve the issues of the ULFA-I is through political dialogue and not through military means.

He also gave the example of the Naga rebels, who too were steadfast on the issue of sovereignty, but still came forward for talks.

“It will be impractical to expect a rebel group to achieve victory over the 4th largest army in the world which is the Indian Army”, Chetia added.

Chetia also informed that the talks with Centre is making steady progress and the next round of talks are likely to be decisive.

The ULFA pro talks leader said that there are certain issues that still need to be resolved and the centre is working hard on them.
