Youth dies after drowning in river in Tripura

In a tragic incident, a youth lost his life after drowning in Tripura’s Gomati district on Sunday.

The victim, identified as one Snehasis Rudra Paul from Amarpur in Tripura’s Gomati district, had gone out for a picnic with other friends in Chabimura, where he went to take a bath in the river but drowned.

Dhirapada Debnath, Deputy Commissioner and Magistrate (DCM), who went to the spot of the incident, said that after receiving information, the police, administration, fire service, and disaster management team immediately arrived at the spot and lodged a search operation.

During the search operation, the body of the 22-year-old youth was recovered, after which it was sent to the hospital.

Tapas Roy, one of the victim’s friends, said that all eleven friends had come for a picnic, and the victim had gone for a bath in the middle of the river, but despite four to five other friends trying to rescue him, risking their own lives, they failed to save him.

Chabimura is famous for its panels of rock carvings on the steep mountain wall on the bank of Gomati and is a popular tourist spot in Tripura.
