Manipur: Leeching withdraws public curfew in Jiribam

Leeching 's decision to withdraw public curfew followed after a meeting with MLA Asabuddin
The public curfew imposed by civil society organisation LEECHING in Manipur’s Jiribam district has been called off. During the public curfew, people in Jiribam blocked the National Highway-37 connecting Manipur capital Imphal with Jiribam.
As per inputs, Leeching decided to withdraw the public curfew following a meeting with the police administration as well as intervention by local MLA Asabuddin.
Leeching had imposed the public curfew in protest against the alleged high handedness by the SP during a peaceful rally yesterday. It may be mentioned that LEECHING had taken out a peace rally on August 10 demanding that peace prevails in the trouble torn state. But the protestors alleged that the Jiribam SP had allegedly misbehaved with them. This angered the agitators and prompted them to impose the public curfew.
Although the public curfew has been called off, a sense of ‘dissatisfaction’ still remains among the protestors as they are seeking deliberations with the SP. However, inputs stated that the SP has left Jiribam this morning.
However, Northeast Live is yet to independently verify the status of Jiribam SP.
