In a shocking incident, a gang of 25 miscreants abducted four people in Numaligarh last night and demanded Rs 3 lakh as ransom.

As per inputs, the incident happened when the four people were traveling to Jorhat from Nagaon on a car when they were reportedly being followed by a gang of 25 people.

The miscreants abducted the four people and took them to an isolated place, where they were attacked and beaten.

It was after the owner of the vehicle contacted the police that a team of police officials launched an operation and rescued the four people from a rehabilitation center near the Numaligarh Tea Garden.

“We were on our way to Sivasagar. A group of 20–25 people in masks gheraoed and attacked us at Numaligarh Tiniali. They took us to a place where we were again beaten. After that, they took us to a tea garden. They called the driver and demanded a ransom of Rs 3 lakh. The driver then went to the owner, through whom the police learned about the incident,” one of the abducted people said.

The miscreants reportedly fled from the spot even before the police arrived.

However, there’s still not much clarity on purpose of the abductors by the kidnapping and why they were attacked.
