Four day Arunachal Rang Mahotsav festival kicks off in Guwahati

The four-day Arunachal Rang Mahotsav theatre festival kicked off at the Srimanta Sankardeva International Auditorium in Guwahati on Tuesday, following its successful performances in Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata.

The festival aims to showcase untold stories of bravery, courage, and sacrifice by the unsung heroes from the state to the young generations through play, who contributed greatly to the freedom struggle against British rule to the young generations through play.

The four day festival will conclude on August 11.

Arunachal Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and others graced the event as chief guests.

The ‘Anglo-Khamti War of 1839’, play was the highlight of the evening yesterday. The play is centered around the valiant hero Chowpha-PPlang-LLu, alias Ronua Gohain, and his clan, who courageously stood against the British Raj.

“None of our history lessons ever spoke about our heroes who contributed greatly in the freedom struggle against the British rule. However, thanks to the efforts from our local researchers that several heroic tales of our heroes were unearthed. We are glad that the coming generation will now get to read stories of bravery, courage and sacrifice by our unsung heroes of Arunachal Pradesh,” CM Khandu wrote on Twitter.

CM Khandu, thanking the Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, for cementing the age-old ties between Assam and Arunachal, shared that both the states share a common history, and glimpses of it were showcased through the play ‘Chowpha-Plang-Lu’ that narrated the Tai Khamti rebellion of 1839.

“I am grateful to Hon CM of Assam Shri @himantabiswa Ji for making his valuable presence at the show, cementing our age-old ties between Assam and Arunachal. Both the States share a common history and glimpses of it were showcased through the play, ‘Chowpha-Plang-Lu’ that narrated the Tai Khamti rebellion of 1839,” CM Khandu further tweeted.
