CAP alleges police misconduct, demands justice for late Padam Gurung and release of party members

The Citizen Action Party (CAP) has pointed fingers at the entire Police Department, accusing them of inciting chaos during the recent justice rally held in Namchi for the late Padam Gurung.

At a press conference held today at the party’s headquarters, CAP Spokesperson Albert Gurung demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the ongoing case surrounding Padam Gurung’s death.

The rally, organized by All Sikkim Tamu Boudh Sangh in memory of the deceased, took an unexpected turn as tension escalated between the police and rally participants.

Gurung expressed his concerns, stating, “The incident at the justice rally was deeply troubling. We firmly believe that a CBI inquiry is necessary to unravel the truth behind Padam Gurung’s untimely demise.”

He further castigated the police for the detainment of the CAP Spokesperson, Prakash Parajuli, and party member Anurag Chettri, alleging that the arrests lacked valid justification.

Speaking to Northeast Live, Gurung said the rally was intended to be a peaceful gathering aimed at securing justice for the late Padam Gurung, who passed away on July 27. He decried the police’s actions as grave injustice to the people of Namchi and the innocent citizens present, citing the use of tear gas and lathi charge as u justified and unnecessary.

In a charged statement, Gurung exclaimed, “Despite the passage of over 40 days since Padam Gurung’s unfortunate demise, the Sikkim Police have failed to take appropriate actions.”
