The Arunachal Pradesh government will have to pay Rs 5000 each to 88 schoolgirls who were allegedly forced to undress by the school teachers as punishment during an incident last year.
The National Human Rights Commission had sent notices to the Arunachal Pradesh state government and the Union HRD Ministry to pay the amount as ‘monetary relief’ to the victims, after taking suo moto cognizance of the incident.
The incident happened on November 23 last year after students of class 6 and 7 of the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Papum Pare district were allegedly forced to go through the ordeal when they allegedly wrote vulgar words against the head teacher.
A case had been registered under the IPC and POCSO Acts. Three teachers were arrested and later released on bail.
While issuing notices to the state’s chief secretary and the HRD secretary, the NHRC had noted that the sordid act was inexcusable.
