Assam will soon get National Centre of Excellence for Badminton

State government will soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Badminton Association of India in this regard

In a bid to promote excellence in the field of Badminton and to promote local and national talent and prepare them for a brighter future, the Assam government will soon set up National Centre of Excellence for Badminton in the Amingaon Indoor Stadium at Guwahati, informed Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today on Twitter.

The State government will soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Badminton Association of India in this regard. The MoU will be valid for 25 years and will be extended by another 10 years subsequently.

The Centre will boast a world-class infrastructure, highly experienced national and international coaches and top class support facilities.

The Sports and Youth Welfare Department, Assam will handle the operation and management while the technical part will be handled by Badminton Association of India (BAI).

Admissions to the center will follow BAI guidelines, with the condition that 50% of intake come from Assam, subject to the fulfillment of other requirements, while maintaining a benchmark of 30% intake of Assam.
