The MSU leaders said that Imphal may not be safe for these students, especially for Mizos to enter the Imphal valley again

Mizo Students Union (MSU) leaders on Monday appealed to state Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati to intervene in the problems being faced by the students from Mizoram studying at the Central Agriculture University (CAU) in Imphal amid the ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur.

The MSU leaders, led by Samuel Zothanpuia, met Kambhampati at Aizawl Raj Bhavan and apprised the latter about the plight of the students from Mizoram currently studying at CAU, Imphal.

They informed the governor that of the 39 students from Mizoram, 12 are in their final year, while the other 28 are required to submit their admission documents in hard copies to the CAU Imphal before Wednesday.

At the same time, these 28 students will have to face their examinations shortly, the student leaders said.

The MSU leaders said that Imphal may not be safe for these students, especially for Mizos to enter the Imphal valley again.

They requested that the Governor to intervene in this matter so that the authorities of CAU, Imphal, would make alternative arrangements.

Meanwhile, there are around 70 medical students from Mizoram resuming their studies at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal at present, while a number of them have returned to Mizoram in view of the volatile situation during mid-July.
