Akshata Murty’s classic style statement at diplomatic events has garnered a lot of attention from the fashion enthusiasts
Akshata Murty, wife of UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and daughter of renowned Indian industrialist Narayana Murthy, has topped the list of Britain’s best-dressed personalities for the year 2023 on Tatler magazine’s best-dressed list.
Yana Peel, Chanel’s global head of arts and culture, who is hailed as “the epitome of fabulous,” secured the second position.
Following closely in third place is Caroline Primrose, Lady Dalmeny, celebrated for her regal fashion sense.
A businesswoman and designer, Akshata Murty, 43, has been described as the “First Lady Fabulous” and has been lauded for her 21st-century glamour, often seen adorning cult, cool-girl labels by the style experts at Tatler.
Her classic style statement at diplomatic events has garnered a lot of attention from the fashion enthusiasts.
Akshata’s appearance at the G7 summit in Japan, where she wore a pink top and green trousers while accompanying her husband, Rishi Sunak, has also caught the attention of the fashion world.
Her dressing style at King Charles’ coronation at Westminster Abbey, where she stunned in a beautiful blue dress and a black fascinator, embodied her grace and elegance.
Murty also made headlines this year when she stepped out in £570 slippers from JW Anderson for the school run.
She also became known for her “quiet luxury” style, also known as “stealth wealth”, having been seen in Gucci trainers that cost £445 and a leather skirt worth more than £1,000.
However, both she and Sunak faced criticism for donning designer labels.
Rishi Sunak has been mocked for wearing a $3,500 suit and £490 Prada shoes to campaign in Teesside last July.
Akshata is a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles and has an MBA from Stanford University.
She quit her job in finance in 2009 to start her own clothing brand, which unfortunately was shut down in 2017. Her love of fashion dates back to her early years.
