The process for collection of biometrics of illegal immigrants from Myanmar will begin in the state today with a team of the National Crime Records Bureau deputed by the MHA already in Imphal for the process.

The collection of biometric data of illegal migrants will begin at the Foreigners’ Detention Centre, Sajiwa, Imphal East from 10 am.

The National Crime Records Bureau team, which has been deputed by MHA for training and handholding of state government officers, will assist and guide in the biometric capture exercise to be conducted at Foreigners’ Detention Centre, Sajiwa, Imphal East.

Districts requiring further training and handholding have been asked to depute their concerned officers to observe the biometric capturing process at the Foreigners Detention Centre.

Manipur Joint Secretary Home, in a notification yesterday, directed all SPs to immediately commence the campaign for biometric capture of illegal Myanmar immigrants in Manipur for timely completion of the process by September 2023.

The MHA has directed the states of Manipur and Mizoram to complete the process of capturing biometric data of illegal migrants by September end.

It may be mentioned that days before the ethnic violence erupted in Manipur, the Centre had asked the governments of Manipur and Mizoram to capture the biographic and biometric details of illegal migrants in the states.
