Families hoisted black flags in their homes and thousands thronged the streets to show their unwavering solidarity with Mizo ethnic tribes of Manipur
The streets of Aizawl were chock-a-block today as bitter political rivals, ministers, legislators, senior citizens, civil society organisations, student bodies, and the common man, all came together, thronged the winding, hilly streets of Aizawl to show their solidarity with the Kuki-Zo community of Manipur who have been subjected to untold misery and sufferings for almost three months now.
Mizoram CM and MNF leader Zoramthanga, his arch political rival Lalduhoma of Zoram People’s Movement and several other political leaders cutting across party lines were seen sharing the same venue as they took part in the Solidarity March organized by the NGO Coordination Committee (NGOCC) in Aizawl.
Families hoisted black flags in their respective homes and thousands took to the streets to show their unwavering solidarity with Mizo ethnic tribes in violence-torn Manipur.
Civil society organizations as the Young Mizo Association, Mizoram Upa Pawl (senior citizens), Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (women’s organization), and the two students’ bodies, Mizo Zirlai Pawl and Mizo Students’ Union were among those who participated in the march.
Chairman of the NGOCC and President of the Central Committee of Young Mizo Association, R Lalngheta said, “If India consider us as Indian, it should take immediate steps to address the sufferings of the Zo ethnic people in Manipur.”
The protesters also adopted resolutions, urging compensation for the victims of the ethnic clashes and stringent punishment to those involved in parading the two Kuki women naked.
The Solidarity March was held in Mizoram capital Aizawl and all district headquarters across the state.
The Solidarity March and the display of black flags aim to echo the profound unity among Mizos and convey support to their fellow community members in the neighbouring state.
