Mizoram Government deploys armed police to provide security to Meiteis amid growing tensions

Tension grew after the Peace Accord Mizo National Front ( MNF ) Returnees Association issued a statement saying Meiteis in Mizoram must now take care of their safety

In a late-night move on Friday, the Mizoram Government has deployed armed police personnel at various locations in the capital Aizawl to provide security to Meiteis who are in the city, engaged in various professions. An internal Mizoram Police order signed by a (DIG) yesterday said the move has been taken in anticipation of possible tension which could threaten the security of Meiteis living in Aizawl due to the public outrage against the torture of the two women by a mob in Manipur’s Thoubal district, the video of which has since gone viral.
