The Chief Minister asserted that Manipur society is against crime against women and considers women as their mothers

Amid the uproar over the Manipur viral video where two women were paraded naked by a mob and one of them was gang raped in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on May 4, Chief Minister N Biren Singh reiterated on Friday that strongest of action will be taken and “exemplary punishment” will be meted out to those involved.

“We will try to give exemplary punishment. People are protesting across the state regarding the incident in every constituency and demanding the strictest punishment for the accused. Accused number one, who was arrested earlier, his house was burnt by Meira Paibi (mother in Manipur) yesterday. This protest is to support the government to punish the accused.,” CM N Biren Singh added.

Four people have been arrested since July 19 when the video went viral. The video has also created outrage among the Opposition leaders and rocked the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament.
The Chief Minister asserted that Manipur society is against crime against women and considers women as their mothers.

“Everyone is outraged since the viral video surfaced. In our society, all women are seen as mothers and sisters, which is why protests have erupted across the state in demand for strict action against the accused,” the CM said.

Responding to Opposition parties demanding his resignation over the law and order situation in Manipur, CM N Biren Singh said, “I don’t want to go into this. My job is to bring peace to the state. Miscreants are there in every society but we will not spare them.”
