The Gauhati High Court has taken suo moto cognisance of the horrific case of rape and molestation of 21 boys and girls living in the hostel of Arunachal Pradesh Government Residential School in Karo of Shi Yomi district of Arunachal Pradesh and would be hearing the case today.
The Court would hear the case against accused Yumken Bagra, who worked as the warden of the hostel from 2019 to 2022 and conducted the misdeeds then.
SP Rajbir Singh who heads the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the case, informed about the Gauhati High Court’s decision yesterday.
On July 19, the incident of hostel warden of a government residential school of Arunachal Pradesh allegedly raping 6 boarders and molesting 15 male and female boarders came into light. The children were 6 to 14 years old.
The incidents took place between 2019 and 2022 but the fact that the warden sexually assaulted as many as 21 boarders came to light now.
The accused, Yumken Bagra, the 33-year-old former hostel warden who served at the Government Residential School in Karo, located under Piri Circle in Shi Yomi district of Arunachal Pradesh from 2019 to 2022, was arrested after two victims lodged FIR at the Tato Police Station in the Shi Yomi District back in November 2022. But a Yupia court granted bail to Bagra.
The case was then handed over to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by SP Rohit Rajbir Singh. Further investigation revealed that it was not just two children but 19 more who were subjected to sexual assault.
