Main accused in murder of 18-year-old girl in Cachar arrested

In a big breakthrough, the Cachar Police has arrested the accused in the murder of an 18-year-old girl in Cachar, Assam, whose acid burnt body was found in an under-construction building on Tuesday.

The arrested accused, identified as Pinak Sukhlabaidya (21) is a resident of Lala in Assam’s Hailakandi district. He was arrested from his residence on Wednesday, four days after the incident.

Cachar SP Numal Mahatta told Northeast Live that Pinak and the deceased girl were in a relationship, however, they both had a fight, and the accused strangled the victim to death on July 15, the day she had gone missing.

As per the Cachar SP, Pinak used to live in Bangalore and was working for a private company as a receptionist.

“He (the accused) was in a relationship with the girl, and they had an affair for many days. They had a fight. The boy came on July 14, and on July 15 evening he went out with her and they both had a fight. The boy strangled her to death,” said Cachar SP.

“A love triangle was the reason for the disputes between the two, for which she met with an unfortunate death,” the SP Cachar added.

The SP added that after killing the girl, Pinak stayed there the whole night, and the next day, he went to ISBT Silchar, and then went to Guwahati. The accused booked two flight tickets to prove that he was not there at the time when she was murdered.

SP Cachar also informed that preliminary medical investigations have ruled out any sexual assault.
However, the SP informed that the seized items of the accused would be sent to the forensic laboratory in Ahmedabad for examination.

It may be mentioned here that DGP GP Singh is also looking into the matter and making sure that the accused is charged and convicted properly.

As per police sources, the girl was missing since July 15. A resident of Rangirkhari area of Silchar, she used to work in a shop. She had gone missing on her way back home from work.
