NPP also held discussions on scrapping the new pension scheme and bringing in the old pension scheme for state government employees in Arunachal

The National People’s Party unit of Arunachal Pradesh has unanimously opposed the immediate implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state, considering the multi-ethnic and multi-tribal diversity in the state.

NPP General Secretary Paknga Bage, speaking to the media after the meeting, said, “We do not agree with immediate implementation of UCC.If it is implemented one national one goal will be there. In that case especially northeast and particularly in Arunachal Pradesh we are a tribal society and our culture is quite different from the mainland India. So if uniform law is implemented it is a danger for our cultural identity.”

Further, Paknga Bage stated that the NPP Arunachal unanimously resolved that instead of implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), the state should codify the state customary law with necessary modifications to suitable tribal practices.

The NPP today held a state Executive Meeting at Itanagar and discussed ways to strengthen the party, changes to bring in the party, the strategies for the upcoming 2024 elections, and the election Manifesto of the NPP.

NPP also held discussions on scrapping the new pension scheme and bringing in the old pension scheme for state government employees in Arunachal Pradesh.

“In today’s meeting, we reaffirmed that the new pension system is not friendly for government employees. There are many demerits,” Paknga Bage added.

Paknga Bage viewed the “Old pension scheme as beneficial for people”.

The party also appealed to the Arunachal government to listen to the grievances of government employees.
