They alleged that of the 11 employees recruited, 9 are close relatives of the Assembly Speaker, Secretary and other top officials
Mizo student bodies–Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) or Mizo Students’ federation and Mizo Students’ Union (MSU) today staged a massive protest in front of the Mizoram Assembly against the recent appointments of 11 employees in the Mizoram State Legislative Assembly.
It may be mentioned here that recently, the state assembly has appointed translators, assistants, Upper Divisional Clerk (UDCs) and Lower Divisional Clerks (LDCs).
The student bodies have alleged top officials including Assembly Speaker Lalrinliana Sailo and Secretary of the Assembly Secretariat Lalhmahruaia Zote of indulging in serious nepotism in the recruitment of these employees.
They alleged that of the 11 employees recruited, 9 are close relatives of the Assembly Speaker, Secretary and other top officials.
They have also demanded the cancellation of the recruitments and appointments and requested that recruitment decisions be made in accordance with the updated Mizoram Legislative Assembly Recruitment Rules.
The student bodies also cautioned that the protest rally will continue until the recruitment and appointments are cancelled.
Meanwhile, the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) distanced itself from the impugned recruitment saying that the state government was not involved in the recruitment.
One MNF leader said that the state assembly secretariat has the ultimate authority to recruit and appoint its own employees under Article 187 of the Indian Constitution and the state government has no say in the matter.
