Boost to Meghalaya tourism, CM Sangma launches 16 luxury tourist vehicles

Giving a significant boost to the tourism sector of Meghalaya and promoting tourism in the state, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh today jointly launched 16 PRIME tourism vehicles for tour operators and individuals.
The Department of Tourism, Meghalaya have rolled out 16 luxury vehicles (Innova Crysta) under the first phase of the Prime Tourism Vehicles project.
The luxury vehicles will provide high-quality mobility and enhance the overall experience of the tourists while travelling.
Speaking at the launch programme, CM Sangma said that transportation in the tourism sector is a huge challenge for Meghalaya, and therefore the state is coming up with an idea to introduce vehicles which has been necessitated by the tourist footfall in the state.
CM Sangma informed that the government is planning to roll out 50 such vehicles during the current financial year, and about 200-250 such vehicles in the next five years.
CM Sangma also said that the Tourism Department have shortlisted 50 individuals and groups from over 600 applicants, who had applied for the scheme.
The government is providing a 50 % subsidy under the scheme, which includes repayment of the loan for the next two years, CM Sangma added.
“As a Government, we have rolled out various schemes to promote tourism and providing luxury vehicles to individuals and groups will only add to creating a better ecosystem for the tourism sector,” CM Sangma tweeted.
The Tourism Department has also distributed life jackets, first aid boxes, and inflatables to tourism stakeholders across the state, which prioritizes the security of visitors to aquatic attractions.
