Congress leader Rahul Gandhi arrived in Imphal this afternoon starting his 2-day visit to the trouble-torn state of Manipur.
From Imphal, Gandhi headed straight to Churachandpur where he will visit relief camps and interact with Civil Society Organisations and community leaders. Gandhi will travel to Churachandpur by road. Later Gandhi will also visit Moirang in Bishnupur before returning to Imphal.
In Churachandpur and Bishnupur, the former Congress president will meet affected families in relief camps. In Bishnupur, he will visit the relief camps set up at Community Hall in Kong-jeng-bam and Moirang College.
Gandhi will also meet Civil Society Organisations and community leaders in both Churachandpur and Bishnupur, two of the worst violence hit districts of Manipur.
Gandhi is also slated to meet representatives of 10 political parties in Imphal, engage with the CSOs and women’s groups in the valley tomorrow.
Gandhi’s visit assumes significance as the Congress has been critical of the Centre’s handling of the Manipur situation. The Congress has also questioned PM Modi for his alleged silence on the Manipur situation and has not visited Manipur yet.
