It was spectacular moment and the first ever in cricketing history, as the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Trophy was launched in space. Believe it or not, the silverware was launched into the stratosphere, 1,20,000 feet above the Earth.

The trophy thereafter landed at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad which will be hosting the final of the mega sporting extravaganza.

The iconic World Cup trophy was attached to a bespoke stratospheric balloon and sent out of the world, literally.

Over the next few months, the trophy will travel to 18 countries around the world, including Kuwait, Bahrain, Malaysia, USA, Nigeria, Uganda, France, Italy, the United States of America and the host country India.

During the trophy’s journey through the stratosphere, 4k cameras attached to the stratospheric balloon captured videos of the trophy sitting on the edge of the Earth’s atmosphere.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah shared a video of the coveted trophy being launched in the stratosphere.

This is the first full-scale Trophy Tour since 2019, owing to the coronavirus pandemic. The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Trophy tour will start from Tuesday, which is also the day the schedule for the World Cup will be announced in Mumbai.
