Congress maintained that it was a fight between the NPP and UDP

The Meghalaya Congress today said that it has no role in toppling the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) just because former Chief Executive Member and Congress MDC of Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah, Pynshngain N Syiem is joining KHADC.

Congress maintained that it was a fight between the National People’s Party (NPP) and its MDA (Meghalaya Democratic Alliance) ally United Democratic Party (UDP).

MPCC chief Vincent Pala clarified that Congress’ only intention behind teaming up with NPP in the council is to bring in a resolution for the sixth scheduled.

Pala said, “When NPP called up Pynshngain N Syiem, he told me and we had a thorough discussion. We see that it is an opportunity for us to put our views regarding the amendment to the sixth schedule. By entering the Council, we can take a resolution on how can we amend the Sixth schedule.”

” We do not get anything joining the Council, except getting a chance of putting our views regarding the amendment of Sixth Schedule,” he added.

Taking a jibe at BJP, Pala said, ” BJP is trying to dilute the Sixth schedule.”

The MPCC chief stated that they have no problem working together with the NPP but the BJP should not be there as was the case in the council.

Pynshngain N Syiem will take over as the Deputy CEM of the new Executive Committee in the KHADC. This was confirmed by the newly elected CEM ok KHADC, Pyniaid Sing Syiem yesterday.

It has been alleged that NPP and Congress MDCs joined hands to topple UDP from the post of Chief Executive Member of the KHADC during a vote on June 19.
