UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, in a viral video, recalled Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's reaction when he ate the 'barfi' made by Sunak's mother.
A video showing UK PM Rishi Sunak offering barfi (homemade sweet) prepared by his mother to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is making rounds on social media.
Sharing the heartwarming video on his official Instagram handle, the Indian-origin Prime Minister, wrote, “It’s not every day that @zelenskiy_official tries your mum’s, homemade sweets.”
Recalling the incident, Rishi Sunak said, “My mum had got some Indian sweets that she wanted to give me that she’d made, called barfi. She couldn’t give me that earlier but later she gave me those at a football match. Oddly enough, I saw President Zelensky on the Monday after that and he and I were chatting and he was hungry. So I actually gave him some of my mum’s barfi which she was very happy to see. She was thrilled by that,” Rishi Sunak said.
The video was also shared by 10 Downing Street’s official YouTube channel.
The netizens were quick to react to Rishi Sunak’s video and one of the users wrote, “Oh boy, no matter who u r PM or ordinary man, u don’t go without ur Mum’s home made Barfi. It’s a Asian love.” (sic)
Another Instagram user wrote, “This is the cutest we can all relate to mum’s barfi.”
“This brings back some memories Rishi! I loved it when your mum brought Indian sweets into the pharmacy, they were so yummy,” another user wrote.
“That’s how India-Ukraine relationship established,” another user wrote.
President Zelenskyy recently visited Britain on his European tour with an aim to secure new weapons for a counteroffensive against Russia. The two leaders also met on the sidelines of the G-7 summit in Japan and UK indicated it would start training Ukrainian fighter pilots to fly F-16s within the next couple of months.
“I am delighted that the G7 has agreed on the importance of giving President Zelenskyy the advanced military equipment needed to win this war and prosper as a free and democratic nation,” Sunak said.
Sunak said Britain would provide Ukraine with air defense missiles and unmanned aerial systems, including new long-range attack drones with a range of more than 200 km.
Rishi Sunak and Dutch leader Mark Rutte have also agreed to build an “international coalition” to help procure F-16 fighter jets for Ukraine.
In February, Zelenskyy visited London for the first time since the start of the war, during which he attended an audience with the King and addressed Parliament.
