Minister of Road and Bridges Samdup Lepcha appeals to GREF for swift road opening after landslide blocks access to North Sikkim
Continuous rainfall in Sikkim has caused major disruptions, leading to the closure of the vital road connecting Gangtok to North Sikkim. The Indo-China border has also been closed due to a landslide near Pegong, close to Chungthang.
Minister of Road and Bridges, Samdup Lepcha, recently visited the affected area to assess the situation. During his visit, Minister Lepcha appealed the General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) to swiftly undertake the task of reopening the road. In response to the Minister’s appeal, the office of the Minister has confirmed that GREF will construct a Bailey bridge to restore access as quickly as possible.
Due to torrential downpours, flash floods, and landslides in the region, authorities are now mobilizing resources to ensure the safety and well-being of stranded tourists and restore transportation links.
