Manipuris taking shelter in Mizoram: Centres assures help

The Mizoram Tourism minister informed that the the Union Home secretary assured the delegation that steps would be taken expeditiously in this regard.
The Centre has assured a delegation of Mizoram government led by Tourism Minister Robert Romawia Royte that it would release funds to help the state government in its initiatives to provide proper food, shelter and medical facilities to the internally displaced people (IDP) who have fled trouble torn Manipur and have taken shelter in Mizoram.
Royte, who led the 3-member delegation, met Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla on the issue seeking humanitarian assistance for the over 11,000 internally displaced people of Manipur who are now living in relief camps in Mizoram.
The Mizoram Tourism minister informed that the the Union Home secretary assured the delegation that steps would be taken expeditiously in this regard.
The meeting comes in the backdrop of Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga writing to the Centre seeking a grant of Rs 10 crore to help the state provide as assistance to the IDP.
During the talks, Royte also pointed out about the gravity of the situation in Manipur and urged the Centre to take up further steps to restore normalcy at the earliest.
The Mizoram government delegation also apprised Ajay Kumar Bhalla about the initiatives taken up by Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga, which included deliberations with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah as well as his Manipur counterpart N Biren Singh.
The delegation expressed concern stating that violence may spill over to Mizoram.
