In an unfortunate incident, two siblings, both minors, were buried alive in a landslide at Nongstoin in Meghalaya’s West Khasi hills on Saturday early morning.

The landslide occurred at around 4:30 am today in Mawiong-Pyndengrei, Nongstoin, due to heavy rainfall.

Both the minors were sleeping when the incident took place. The minors who lost their lives due to the landslide were girls aged 10 and 15.

The bodies of the two were taken to Nongstoi Civil Hospital for a post-mortem.

Earlier this week, a man lost his life after he slipped and fell into a stream in Nongpoh and was swept away during heavy rain.

In another development, in view of the floods and strong water current caused by incessant rainfall, the West Khasi Hills Police have asked people in the area to avoid these roads:

  1. Nondien to Maiawban, which is flooded at Pampor, Nondien
  2. District Council towards St. Joseph Hospital

The Met Department has issued an alert for heavy rainfall in most part of Meghalaya today and tomorrow.
