Global Business Leader Ming Z. Mei Named First GMC Founding Member

Mei’s family trust, Humble Holdings, will invest in projects integral to GMC’s initial development stages

Ming Z. Mei, Co-Founder and CEO of GLP, a global leader in logistics real estate, data centres, renewable energy infrastructure, and related technologies, has been named as the Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) Founding Member by Bhutan King His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck.

Mei’s family trust, Humble Holdings, will invest in projects integral to the City’s initial development stages. The Group now owns and manages about US$120 billion of assets worldwide, with a focus on high-growth, high-resiliency new-economy sectors across Asia, Europe and the Americas.

The GMC Founding Member programme is an exclusive, by invitation only initiative and extended to only those individuals whose expertise and experience will be significant for GMC’s success. Founding Members not only invest in the City’s development but also serve as advisors, offering specialised knowledge to shape the future of this visionary project.

Ming Z. Mei’s selection as a founding member reflects his unwavering dedication to fostering Bhutan’s development, alongside his substantial role in establishing the groundwork for GMC’s strategic initiatives.
Following his appointment, Ming Z. Mei was quoted as saying, “The vision His Majesty has for Bhutan and its citizens is truly inspiring. Gelephu Mindfulness City offers an innovative model for ‘mindful development’ in the 21st century, with a goal to catalyze economic transformation in Bhutan by launching industries that create meaningful employment for the youth in technologically advanced and globally integrated sectors. It is a privilege to be appointed as a GMC Founding Member and to help bring this visionary project to fruition. His Majesty’s vision is our guiding light.”

The development plan for GMC highlights seven primary sectors: Agritech and Forestry; Airport Economy; Education and Knowledge; Finance and Wealth Management; Green Energy and High Technology; Health and Wellness; and Spirituality.

Who is Ming Z. Mei?

Under the vision and leadership of Ming Z. Mei, GLP revolutionized the modern logistics industry by taking an innovative and entrepreneurial approach to growth and value creation and has since expanded into adjacent sectors and new markets.

Ming co-founded Eastern Bell Venture Capital and sits on various public and private boards. He is also an investor and board member of Value Retail China, a company that specializes in the development and operation of luxury outlet shopping villages.

Ming graduated from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and the School of Business and Management at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology with a Master of Business Administration. He received his Bachelor of Science in Finance from Indiana University School of Business.
