The Tripura state government is initiating a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the murders of journalists Shantanu Bhowmick and Sudip Dutta Bhowmick.

While talking to media persons, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb stated that a CBI enquiry into the two sensational murder cases had been one of their agendas during the state elections, and now they are fulfilling the same.

Both the journalists had been killed last year. While Shantanu Bhowmick was hacked to death while covering a tribal agitation at Mandwai, Sudip Dutta Bhowmick was shot dead at a battalion headquarters of Tripura State Rifles near Agartala.
