NIRF 2023 rankings: IIT-Guwahati is India’s 9th best educational institute and 7th best engineering college

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati is the 9th best educational institute and 7th best engineering college, according to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings released by the Union Education Ministry.

IIT-Madras continued to be India’s top-ranked educational institute for the fifth year in a row followed by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru and IIT-Delhi.

The rankings were announced by Union Minister of State for Education Rajkumar Ranjan Singh today.

With this, IIT-Guwahati continued to be in the list of top 10 engineering institutes for the fourth consecutive year. IIT-G also earns the honour of being the only technical institute from Northeast India to figure in the NIRF rankings list of the top 10 engineering institutes of the country.

IIT-Guwahati was established in 1994. The institute has 11 departments and 5 inter-disciplinary academic centres covering all the major engineering, science and humanities disciplines, offering BTech, BDes, MA, MDes, MTech, MSc and PhD programmes.

In the list of top 10 educational institutes in the overall category, IIT-Madras topped the list followed by IISc Bengaluru in second slot, IIT Delhi in 3rd, IIT Bombay in 4th, IIT Kanpur in 5th, AIIMS Delhi in 6th position, IIT Kharagpur in 7th position, IIT Roorkee in 8th and JNU in 10th position.

AIIMS and JNU are the only non-technical educational institutes to make it to the top 10 list of overall best educational institutions.

Among the colleges, Miranda House, Delhi topped the list of best colleges followed by Hindu College, Delhi.

The toppers were selected from a list of 8,686 applicants.

The NIRF ranking is an annual report card of the institutions’ performance. It is a reflection of how the institution compares to other institutions in the same field.
