World Environment Day is celebrated annually on 5 June and encourages awareness and action for the protection of the environment. On the occasion of World Environment Day, Chief Ministers and ministers from the Northeast have come forward with messages emphasizing the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable practices.
With a shared vision for a cleaner and greener future, the leaders are urging citizens to contribute to safeguarding the environment for generations to come.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in his special message, highlighted the consistent efforts of the government in ensuring a clean and green environment. He called upon all individuals to unite in creating a sustainable and safe future by actively participating in environmental initiatives.
Taking to Twitter, CM Sarma wrote, “Our govt has been consistently working towards ensuring a clean and green environment for our future generations, where everyone enjoys a high quality of life. On #WorldEnvironmentDay, I call upon all to contribute towards building a shared, sustainable, and safe future.”
Arunachal Chief Minister Pema Khandu focused his message on combating plastic pollution. Using the hashtag #BeatPlasticPollution, he stressed the urgency of reducing plastic waste and encouraged the adoption of environmentally friendly alternatives.
Taking to Twitter, CM Khandu wrote, “It’s time to #BeatPlasticPollution. The #WorldEnvironmentDay2023 is significantly themed on tackling the growing menace of #plastic pollution. Let’s adopt Lifestyle for the Environment – LiFE – in its letter and spirit to save for our future generations. The Pakke Declaration is the testament of our resolve to retain the resilience of environment and fight #ClimateCrisis. I urge you all to supplement our green efforts and be responsible in matters of plastic. Your actions matter a lot and will make a difference too!”
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio emphasized the three pillars of environmental sustainability: reduce, reuse, and recycle.
Chief Minister Rio took to his Twitter handle and wrote, “Plastic pollution is one of the biggest environmental challenges facing humanity. It is a problem that requires global action. We need to reduce, reuse and recycle. Let us #BeatPlasticPollution. Happy #WorldEnvironmentDay2023”
Nagaland Tourism Minister Temjen Imna Along also urged netizens to experience the pristine air of Nagaland rather than relying on air purifiers.
“Saaf hawa ke liye Air Purifier ki nahi, Nagaland ki taazi hawao ka anand le! No electricity consumption, Na koi Jhanjhat, Na koi Pareshyani. Only SUKOON! #WorldEnviromentDay #ExploreNagaland”, tweets Imna Along
Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton stressed the importance of individual responsibility in safeguarding the environment.
“#WorldEnvironmentDay underscores the urgent need for each of us to shoulder the responsibility of safeguarding our environment and to acknowledge the far-reaching impacts of our actions. This #EnvironmentDay, let’s collectively strive for a healthier, greener world for all!”, tweets Patton.
World Environment Day serves as a reminder for individuals to reflect on their ecological footprint and take concrete steps toward preserving and restoring our planet’s natural resources.
