By tomorrow or next week the heads of all institutions will give their inputs on the NEP implementation, and accordingly the government will decide, said the Education Minister
Even though it is the need of the hour to implement the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in Meghalaya, various educational institutes in the state have petitioned the State Education Department stating that they are not ready to implement the NEP from this academic season (2023-2024), said Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma.
Speaking to media, Minister Sangma said that he had a one-on-one discussion with a few heads of prominent institutions in the state, and instructed all educational institutions’ heads to send a written report to the education department, based on the reports, the government will communicate for NEP implementation.
Minister Rakkam A Sangma said that by tomorrow or next week the heads of all institutions will give their inputs on the NEP implementation, and accordingly the government will decide.
When asked about challenges in putting NEP into implementation, Sangma stated that the policy’s concept is very broad and complicated because its entire purpose is to raise the quality of education in the state and nation to meet international standards.
Talking about the recent results of the Meghalaya Board of School Education, Minister Rakkam A Sangma said that the overall performance of the state and especially the Garo Hills region was not up to the standard that was expected.
“The state government and the education department are concerned about it. So, we will be sitting in Garo Hills first to review the overall performance as we have the committee, then we will constitute some more committee to see the bottom line and issues,” he added.
